ALUMINIUM COLD ROLLING MILL AUTOMATION PROJECTS
At VIG Metal, one of Turkey’s leading flat aluminum producers, we have successfully completed several automation projects within the Cold Rolling ABB 800xA Automation System scope. These projects focused on improving precision production processes, increasing efficiency, and enabling the digitalization of operational workflows.
Implemented Works
Gear Shift Automation:
Automatic gear ratio adjustments based on production speed and material characteristics were implemented, enabling more flexible line operation and reducing downtime.
Pass-Line Adjustment:
Automatic height adjustments of the rolling line were optimized to ensure proper material flow positioning. This helped prevent material deviations and process errors.
Roller Transfer Car Automation:
Automation of the roll change transfer car enabled fast and safe replacement of rollers, significantly reducing production line downtime.
Thickness Measurement System Integration:
The ABB thickness measurement system was integrated into the automation system, enabling real-time monitoring of material thickness at every production stage. This provided operators with immediate intervention capability and improved production quality.
Centering Measurement Systems Communication:
Integration of thickness and centering measurement devices with the automation system increased precision and improved overall quality standards.
Coil Barcode System Implementation:
A barcode tracking system was implemented to monitor each coil throughout the production and shipping process. This improved traceability, accelerated inventory management, and enabled rapid response to production errors.
